Best App Developers for Toddler and Infant Apps

MLP March 23, 2011 2

Looking for a new iPhone app to entertain your own rambunctious bug, or maybe one that helps give a little education?  You can even admit you’re just looking for a new app to keep them quiet in the car!  Well, I have plenty of apps lists for you to look at for the latest, but that doesn’t mean you’ve seen classics.  That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be another list! (Ha!)  In all seriousness though, these people are some of the best in my book when it comes to putting out some high quality apps aimed at infants and toddlers.  I hope to give a more in-depth highlight to each of these developers soon (when that happens, I’ll update this post) but to tide you over and help bring attention to them, here they are, some of my all time favorite iPhone, iPod, and iPad app developers that keep your children in mind.

Busy Bee Studios

busybeelogoThe developers of mine and Bugs newest favorite app, Zoo Train.  They obviously take the time and have the thought process needed to create an app that can entertain and keep the attention of a toddler for longer then 5 minutes.  Their newest app, Bug Games is coming soon too.  I love their methodology and art in their first app, and cannot wait for this one!

Kiboomu

kiboomulogoKiboomu was officially launched in January 2010 and is a Montreal-based development company that specializes in award-winning music and iPhone apps for kids.  Kiboomu currently have 4 music apps available; Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Old MacDonald, ABC Song and Toddler Sing & Learn.  I have followed Kiboomu since their first app came out, as it came out the same time this site started, so I’ve been side by side with these ladies since the start, and they know how to entertain kids, from infants on up.  Anytime these ladies release an app, you can be sure it’ll be a home run.

Night & Day Studios

night&daylogoNight & Day Studios are the originator of the app the started it all for me; Peekaboo Barn.  If I had to point out what started the concept of Geekasms.com, it was the day I was sitting in a doctor’s office and had to entertain my son.  They now bolster a total of seven apps developed for your kids, and each time they prove they know what they’re doing.  If you need proof, and an example of a great iPhone app for your infant/toddler, try their free version of Peekaboo Barn, you’ll be hooked just like me.

Oceanhouse Media

OM-logo-tagWhat is arguably the king of interactive books on mobile devices, Oceanhouse Media keeps cranking out great digital, interactive versions of some of your favorite books from your childhood including the always amazing Dr Seuss, The Berenstain Bears, and others.  Read these with your kids, or set them to autopilot and let them watch the books come to life on their own.  Either way, if you’re looking for an interactive or read-along book for your iOS device, Oceanhouse Media should be your first stop.

Short Stack Apps

Coming from one of the developers of Peekaboo Barn and Peekaboo Wild from Night & Day Studios, Short Stack Apps has only released one app to this point, Splish Splash Inn.  However, this one app, in my opinion is set above other counting apps in its art, flow, and interactivity.  A terrific app that has become a staple on all my iOS devices, as it entertains both my toddler and preschooler, I’ve included them on this list in hopes that they will come out with another app.  I keep checking them out to see if they are, as I think you should too.Splish Splash Inn - Shortstack

Thumb Arcade

thumbarcadelogoAlthough they have multiple apps under their name, their first foray into the world of children apps has been a knock out success.  My Underwear has proven to be a terrific app in concept and practice and is hopefully the sign of things to come from those wild and wacky thumbs.  Just like with Short Stack Apps, they only have released one children’s app up to this point and haven’t shown signs of a new one coming down the pipe, at least one aimed for kids, but I feel that they’ve proven themselves with they’re first app, and hopefully they’ll prove themselves again with a new children’s app soon.

**Disclaimer: This list is of my own opinion, one you can or not make your own.  Some or all of these developers at one time or another have given me promo codes for their apps to allow me the opportunity to test and review them.  They in no way have affected my perspective or opinions.  All opinions are mine, and strongly based on the reaction of my children.**

    2ThumbsUp, Mike!

More kids apps are on the horizon. Just gotta clear our dance card of this grown up “work” first before we can get back to having some fun… Heck, it’s all fun. Some of it’s just MORE fun.

    Talk soon.
