5 Doctor Who Apps to Tame Your Inner Time Lord

MLP April 16, 2011 0

For fans and nonfans alike, Doctor Who returns to television a week from today on April 23rd.  If you just take a little time to look on this site, its not hard to figure out that I’m a Doctor Who fan.  So out of the goodness of my heart, and in celebration of the beginning of the 6th season, I thought I’d throw together this quick list of Doctor Who related iPhone apps that I have used plenty of times in the past, and will continue to do so in the future.  So if you’re a true Who fan, and looking to increase the injection of Who into your life, be sure to check out these apps:

Doctor Who: The Mazes of Time

BBC Worldwide – $2.99

Straight out, if you don’t own this, you should.  Featuring the 11th Doctor and Amy Pond, The Mazes of Time is a top-down puzzle adventure game that can easily keep you entertained as it continues to challenge you and your logic.  Not only must you move The Doctor to solve puzzles, but Amy is also part of the equation.  You have to use both characters to solve the problems, and that helps add depth to the levels and keeps them from becoming repetitive.  The game features the Daleks, Cybermen, and Silurians as the level baddies.

Doctor Who Comics

IDW Publishing – FREE

Who can argue about this one at all?  Even when I posted about the announcement and release of this app I didn’t realize how addicted I could be with it.  Being a fairly new Doctor Who fan, and one that doesn’t have many chances to visit any nearby comic book stores, I have truly taken advantage of being able to electronically purchase and read new and old Doctor Who comics.  Even on the smaller screen of my iPhone, the app is easy to use and the comics are easy to read.  Once I get a new iPad, this will be one of the first apps I put on there though.  Even if you’re not into comics, its worth downloading and checking out as they do offer a few free

DWO Media – $1.99

Doctor Who Online is one of the largest Doctor Who related sites on the internet.  It was one of the first sites I went to when I started becoming a fan.  iWho connects to DWO’s database, and is as up to date as the website itself.  Not only does iWho offer the news from the site, but it also offers the DWO WhoCast.  The website’s podcast, current and archived, along with their Twitter feed and more.  If you want to stay up to date, this would be an app to look into.

Pandoric Apps – $1.99

An all-in-one app when it comes to Doctor Who, Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures.  Featuring news, spoilers, episode guides, pictures and videos.   All the latest and greatest information that you can find on the Doctor Who TV website.  An app for anyone that wants to stay in the know while they’re mobile.

iAmADalek (Doctor Who)

BBC Worldwide – FREE

For anyone that wants to have a quick laugh or a quick bit of fun.  Officially licensed by BBC Worldwide, iAmADalek is exactly what it says, it will make your voice into a Dalek’s voice.  Allowing you to record any statement you want, play it back to yourself, save for later, or you can email it to and friend or loved once that you wish to Exterminate!

Do not take this as a “Best of” list, as there are other Who related news apps, Dalek voice syntesizes and more available at the App Store.  These are simply the ones I currently have and use on my own personal iPhone.  If you have a favorite app you feel should be mentioned or checked out, feel free to leave a comment so everyone else can check it out as well.

**Disclaimer**  I have not received anything from any of the developers or companies listed above (Although if anyone wants to send me something Doctor Who related, please do!)  This list is truly my own.  Is not meant to sway or alter opinions by any means, its just a list put together for entertainment and informative purposes.
