A New Excuse to Re-Watch Series 5

MLP April 18, 2011 13

So, we are in countdown mode.  In less than a week, we will have answers to questions and questions to answer because the new series of Doctor Who starts this coming Saturday!  (That reads so corny, but I’m not changing it!)

Anyway, Rappy over at Neowin’s forums posted these below, I am unsure of the origin beyond that.  Are they possible sightings of the Silents in Series 5?  Guess we’ll find out, but I’ve watched every one of them, and after you do, these points definitely seem to stick out as suggested.  Which, I’ll admit I think is pretty cool!

Sightings of the Silents or indications of their presence in Series 5:

The Eleventh Hour – While hanging from the TARDIS, the Doctor looks up into it and for a couple of seconds has a confused look on his face. Also, just how did Tennant’s Sonic get in that room? Also, when Rory and Amy exit the elevator on the second floor of the hospital, Rory glances behind him at something, but when he looks back towards Amy, he shakes his head like he forgot something. It is about 42:49. In the scene at the end of the episode where Amy goes into the TARDIS for the first time. there’s one point where she leans back on the console and is looking around the room. The camera is pointed towards her face, so we can’t see what she’s looking at. She looks around with a sort of awe-struck smile, but then her eyes linger over something and her expression turns into a look of horror. She starts breathing really quickly and turns as if to get the Doctor’s attention, but as soon as she’s facing him she just asks, perfectly normally, “Why me?”, as if she’d completely forgotten about what she’d just seen. Also, she flicks a TARDIS button/switch/lever at this point. Accidental Amy or something meaningful?

The Beast Below – At around 9:25 a black figure walks past Amy, she looks confused/scared for a couple of seconds then shrugs it off.

Victory of the Daleks – Near the end after the Daleks escape, the Doctor moves slowly backwards, as he gets near to the green framed window/doorway he looks to his left with a shock. The camera then switches to Amy and Churchill who both stare to the Doctor’s left with a look of shock before Amy continues on as normal with the line “Doctor, it’s OK you did it, you stopped the bomb.”

The Lodger - At 21:47 for a couple of shots Amy looks in the distance or at the screen and gasps, then shouts for the Doctor’s attention but he doesn’t listen. She looks away and shakes it off.

Vampires of Venice – At the end when Rory, Amy, and the Doctor are standing by the TARDIS, the TARDIS door is open and then shuts on its own.

The Big Bang – There are cloaked figures behind the Sarcophagi in the museum; a third figure moves out of shot at the edge of the screen at about 13:31

Check them out and see what you think!

UPDATE:

User Fallenarms was super kind enough to put these clips together in a YouTube video, rather than just embed the video in this post, click here to head on over to YouTube and check it out.

I’m not convinced of the ones in The Eleventh Hour, those can be explained away, others however I think are more likely

Isn’t there a bit in The Eleventh Hour, when Amelia is outside sat on her case waiting for the Doctor and the camera goes back inside her house, when a black figure/black something flits across the camera? At the time, I inferred it was Prisoner Zero. But it doesn’t look like Prisoner Zero’s natural form, and the Doctor makes if clear that it takes months for Prisoner Zero to adopt another form…

i belive that figure was explained in the big bang as the doctor when he returned amelia to her bed or when he exitied the house to take amelia to her bed!

Dont agree with all of them, some could be genuine mistakes, but there is no mistaking some of them are very obvious – obvious to me now that im looking for something in any case. Very spooky. I wonder if the actors knew what they were doing.

I was rewatching VoV and prior to the TARDIS door closing, when Amy is walking she looks to her side with a somewhat strange look, and then the last shot they showed after The Doctor and Rory speak, concentrates on the lock of the TARDIS, almost like a hint.

Worth pointing out that in the Beast Below scene, if you turn up the volume, you can hear the same weird insectile purring the Silence make in The Impossible Astronaut – just much quieter.

The site you linked to is great…
