In a bit of a surprise, at least for me, today Developer NetherRealm Studios (the people behind Mortal Kombat) released Batman: Arkham City Lockdown, a tie-in to the recently released game from Rocksteady. I’m writing this while I’m waiting for the app to download to my phone, but from what I can tell, Batman: Arkham City is a side-scrolling brawler, compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad (my son will be very happy!)
Here is the Description from the AppStore:
The inmates have escaped and Batman has his hands full defeating an army of henchmen and some of his most iconic villains. Scour the rooftops and the seedy underbelly of Gotham City through a series of one-on-one battles with the Joker, Two-Face and more, as well as the Batman: Arkham City Lockdown exclusive – Deathstroke. Choose from several Batman skins and power-ups as you punch, kick and combo your way to cleaning up Gotham City.
The game is powered by Unreal Engine, although obviously simplified a great deal from the gameplay of Arkham City proper. The game offers multiple skins, upgrades and extras. The game’s intro (video below) makes mention of Joker and Two Face escaping Arkham Asylum, and the Mayor stating this is the “last straw” so Arkham City has not be founded yet. In terms of the narrative or storyline, it seems this game falls between Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
Review coming soon.
