So, here are a few of the latest Whovian rumors circling the interwebs lately.
● It’s already known that Steven Moffat has gone on record as saying that the Ponds’ time with the Doctor has a “heartbreaking end” and it doesn’t look like death has been eliminated as that “end”. Karen Gillan was asking about her Whovian future on The Graham Norton Show, and said:
I have known for ages that I am leaving and it’s such a massive relief that it is out and I can speak freely about it. I’m back next year for a few episodes but it’s not actually confirmed when I go.
She was asked if death was a possibility and said she didn’t know, but said it was possible. As Doctor Who is supposed to be, and still is considered a children’s show, I don’t see actual death being in the cards, but Moffat has done crazier things.
● A few sites, including Bleeding Cool are saying that one name being mentioned for the Doctor’s new companion sans the Ponds would be Miranda Hart. She’s apparently more well-known as a comedic actor and is the star, creator and writer of the BBC sitcom Miranda. I suppose its possible as she wouldn’t be the first comedian turned companion as Catherin Tate was known for being a comedic actress prior to travelling with David Tennant. However I just don’t see someone leaving that much control over themselves and the character they play. I mean star, creator, AND writer, to companion of the Doctor? Maybe an appearance, but I don’t see her being the long-term companion.
● Looks like Craig is coming back yet again as they have reached out to James Corden about returning yet again. No word on if it will be a one and done type deal yet again, or if he will be more involved in the next series. Honestly, I’m not sure I see Craig as a fulltime companion, but could see him in the role as more of a transition between Amy and Rory and whoever ends up being the new companion. And if something bad happens to one or both the Ponds, I can see the Doctor going to Craig for comfort, similar to how he did this past series.
