Nintendo 3DS Gets Game Demos on the Nintendo eShop

MLP January 20, 2012 0

The Nintendo 3DS is getting its own free demos and downloads starting today, with a demo for Resident Evil Revelations.

Although the 3DS was slow coming out of the gate when it was originally released, it has slowly grown, especially after the initial price drop.  The announcement of downloadable demos goes to show the long term expectations that Nintendo has for its current handheld.

Besides just Resident Evil, other demos that will soon follow are Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, and Rayman Origins.  Take note, that these demos are just not Nintendo titles, but are also coming from Capcom and other developers, which could be taken as a sign that the expectations of the 3DS are growing, outside of Nintendo as well.

With game trailers, videos, apps such as Netflix, classic and contemporary games, and other content already available on the Nintendo eShop, the addition of free game demos just expands the overall online experience the 3DS offers.  Although the 3D aspect is its intended main draw, I see this as a sign that Nintendo is looking to expand the online content available to the 3DS, and I can eventually see it becoming much more an online device.
