Coming in May, is the first ever Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover, and my inner geek is at a loss for words.
Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation 2 will come from IDW and reads like pure fan fiction. Assimilation 2 has the Borg and the Cybermen joining together in an unthinkable alliance, which spells disaster for, well everyone. I mean Borg + Cybermen = Insanity! Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise (From the cover its 1701-D not E) join forces with the Doctor and his companions to face this most insane of unholy alliances in an eight-issue series.

This is a perfect partnership for not only Doctor Who’s incredible fans, but also for the brand.” says Soumya Sriraman, Executive Vice President of Home Entertainment and Licensing.
To set aside my excitement for this, I will say I find it surprising that this is the first crossover between the brands, but think they’ll mesh very well together. (Imagine the Doctor facing off against Q!) The series will be written by Scott and David Tipton, the authors of critically acclaimed Star Trek: Infestation, with a helping hand from longtime Doctor Who writer Tony Lee, and will feature fully painted artwork by J.K. Woodward. Looks like this crossover has been well thought out and its in good hands.
Fans are encouraged to ask their retailers about the rare wraparound photo cover! There will also be a variant cover featuring the Doctor and friends about the Enterprise, and I assume that means the bridge. (Captain Doctor!)
STAR TREK TNG/DOCTOR WHO: ASSIMILATION2 ($3.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in stores in May 2012.
