I've seen about 2-3 higher scores out there so far, but they look like the players purposely died and gathered points on key levels using 1-Ups to pad their scores versus a straight playthrough. Sadly I probably used to be better (especially with SNES controller versus Wii classic controller), but I managed to adapt to it for a high score run. In any case, a fellow traveller!
