Earlier this summer, Paramount+ revealed that they were canceling their animated series Star Trek: Prodigy after only one season. It was a strange choice considering that the second season had already been made but was not getting released. The hope was that the series could find a new home, and thankfully Netflix swooped in to save the day like Enterprise D flying through a Borg cube, announcing that they will take over the series, releasing its first season later this year followed by Season 2 sometime in 2024.
A statement from executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman reads:
“Thank you to our incredible Star Trek: Prodigy fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together. We set out to inspire you, but you inspired us. The team is still hard at work on the second season, and we can’t wait to share it with the amazing fans around the world.”
