Adidas and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are teaming up in an epic collaboration for the 40th anniversary of the Heroes in a half shell.
Adidas is set to unveil a line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-inspired versions of its Superstar sneakers in early 2024, according to an internal Adidas document that was reviewed and reported on by Complex. This official collaboration with the TMNT franchise cleverly incorporates the “Shelltoe” moniker of the Superstar, paying homage to the iconic reptilian heroes.
As per the document, the debut TMNT x Adidas pair is slated for a February release, followed by two more in April. It’s worth noting that these dates are tentative, and Adidas has yet to confirm them. The article on Complex also suggests there are indications that the initial launch may be postponed to March.
The 2024 release aligns with the 40th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, which originated as a comic book in 1984.
What is expected to be the first TMNT x Adidas shoe, which can be viewed in the gallery below, comes green, as one would expect. There is a turtle shell pattern on the toe and also has monogram lace charms, two sets of sock liners, and “Ninja Power!” under the tongue.
The shoes themselves will come in action figure-style blister packaging and will come with a collectible Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book.
Based on the images provided, the shoes appear to be based on the Mirage comic version of the turtles, which makes sense considering these are in line with the 40th anniversary of the comic’s debut. While some may assume these are based on Raphael based on the red, being based on the Mirage version, there is no guarantee we get colors for all four brothers. With additional models of the shoes being released, one can hope, but at the same time, we may be looking at styles for The Shredder, Splinter, or any number of other charters as well.
The shoes are expected to retail for $130.
We’ll be sure to keep everyone updated as more news comes out regarding this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Adidas collaboration. And rest assured, I’ll be grabbing myself a pair as soon as I can. I missed out on the MOTU x Puma releases, I will not be making that same mistake this time.
