Legendary Entertainment has unveiled the initial poster for its upcoming rendition of The Toxic Avenger. The fact that this film is undergoing a remake is quite remarkable, and it boasts an impressive ensemble led by Peter Dinklage, who assumes the role of Winston Gooze.
This movie is characterized as a “completely fresh reinterpretation of Lloyd Kaufman’s iconic The Toxic Avenger.” While the original film (debuted in 1984 – nearly four decades ago!) followed the journey of Melvin Ferd Junko III (Mitch Cohen), who transforms from a nobody to a heroic figure due to a mishap stemming from bullying, Macon Blair’s modern approach depicts a grotesquely disfigured being with extraordinary size and strength.
Dinklage takes on the role of “oppressed custodian Winston Gooze, who, following an encounter with a vat of hazardous waste, evolves into none other than The Toxic Avenger. This timely reimagining is deeply entwined with environmental motifs, as Winston confronts the malevolent forces of avarice and corruption to safeguard his son, companions, and community.”
The summary also points out, “While this narrative stands independently, it unmistakably maintains a connection to the original’s spirit. Devoted fans of Troma, both longstanding and newfound, will be pleased to learn that the movie adheres to the “R” rating for its customary inclusion of violence and graphic content.”
The film secures its R rating due to “Intense violence and graphic content, consistent strong language, references of a sexual nature, and brief instances of explicit nudity.” Let’s not overlook the presence of “rear end entrails” – a detail that can’t be omitted.
Dinklage shares the screen with Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, and Jacob Tremblay in The Toxic Avenger. With indications of an imminent trailer, it appears that we can anticipate its release soon – stay tuned!
The grand unveiling of The Toxic Avenger is scheduled to take place at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas.
